Why I'm studying Japanese
My motives for studying Japanese aren't truly well defined. I've always like the idea of learning a new language (in addition to my native Spanish and adopted English) but never really had an inclination towards any one in particular. After much debate, I figured that my interest in Japanese food (yum!) and culture would be enhanced if I could at least understand some of the language. And who knows-- maybe it'll come in handy in my future endeavors!
At the moment, the hiragana seems completely alien to me and the number of characters seems overwhelming, but I think this feeling will eventually pass. I'm surprised at how similar the pronunciation is to that in Spanish. It's definitely put some ease on speaking and listening.
